Been a while I know...but as you can imagine...or know ;-)....the corps has been locked away all winter learning new music...and slowly coerced outside during the spring (just to get the kids used to fresh air again) to learn a whole new show. The farm.... the destination...to win...the goal....to enjoy the experience...the aim. A few hard weeks...battling the elements...a couple of hard slogs at weekend band camps...culminating in a sensational final band camp last weekend at Lutterworth rugby club...WE ARE THERE !!!!....music complete...show complete...we are ready to show the world how its done. Firstly we would like to thank all the music and show staff for all the hard work they have done, to all the catering and backroom staff, thank you for keeping us all fed and watered (and smothered in suncream), thank you to Carl (our illustrious Corp Director) without whom none of this would be possible...and finally...the kids (and a couple not so kids ;-))...the reason why we do it...after all the hard work...the tears...the sore feet...the frustration of where is my dot....and the constant "i cant do it"...YOU HAVE !!!...After all my years working with bands and corps here in the UK as well as abroad...never have I come across such enthusiastic...hard working...caring and happy bunch of marching members....I am sure I can say on behalf of all the staff...you make us all PROUD PROUD KNIGHTS...and for this we thank you.
The weekend was tough, the sun was hot, the venue superb and well manicured. The field was set and instruments lined up, the members arrived. Saturday was the day we finished the show, all the dancing in West Side Story was like a cake walk compared to how the kids went at learning the closer, set by set, piece by piece until finally it was complete. Full run the order of the day, they had made it. But no the full run was not enough, over and over they went, clean and tidy clean and tidy...wow...on the saturday, they put in just short of a 12 hour shift. They slept well that night (a relief for Carl). Sunday...all up early...and didnt have to be woke up (big surprise)....hearty breakfast for all...they were also on field early...wow...stretch outs...and straight back into the hard work...I thought they had worked hard on the Saturday...but Sunday blew me away with what these kids wanted to achieve...over and over...wanting to correct if they got it wrong...no crying...no whining...even when we had a visit from the BYBA judging team (for training)...a few scared faces...but they soon got over that...and perform they did...run after run...wow...the judges then departed (a big thank you to them all for their words of wisdom and encouragement)...and the time came...the parents arrived...the staff took to the tower...their work now complete...its now up to the kids (and the couple of not so kids I mentioned earlier)...the backroom staff all waiting in anticipation....and the parents have arrived to watch what they have achieved...the final run for camp...WOW !!!!....even after all the hard work...the hot sun...the sore feet...and for the brass...the sore lips....they played and marched their hearts out...absolutely brilliant.....they had achieved...tear in my eye and a lump in my throat...it really was that good. I could go on all night...but i wont...only because I am welling up just thinking about it 😂.
On a more serious note, I must mention our Newly affiliated members to the PK family The Atherstone Girls Band who will be making their first public appearance in over 30 years at the Warton carnival on Saturday 9th of June where we will also have a stall and instruments for you to have a go, or even let the kids try ;-). And on Sunday the 10th of June Phantom Knights will be performing at the Desford Carnival (just outside of Hinckley off the A47). Please feel free to come along and enjoy a day out with us, we do like to have fun and meet new people :-).
So to sum it up...we are ready for that first competition...we are also ready to have some fun...and I really cant say it enough...I am a PROUD PROUD KNIGHT (I think these kids are awesome...and I love them all)
Oh...no I didnt forget...a special mention to Jackie and Amy...was lovely to see you again at the weekend...we all love and miss you both so much too :-)❤️❤️❤️🎼🎼🎶🎶🎶🎺🎺🎺🥁🥁🥁 ... See MoreSee Less
