Phantom Knights

Now today is the day after the day before....now what relevance is that I hear you say....well.....it was competition day :-)...the second half of the season has kicked off...and kicked off in style....the obligatory early morning practice before the short trip to a new little venue at walsall wood football stadium just half hour down the road...we were taking part in the Midlands Music in Motion competition...hosted by our close neighbours Beeches....it was looking promising...it stayed dry for the rehearsal....it stayed dry for the short bus journey down the road....it stayed dry while we unloaded and scouted out the new joint....it stayed dry while the mighty (mini) Phantom Knights changed into uniform and polished the last little bit of their instruments....can you see where I am going with this yet ???.....it stayed dry when they blocked up and marched to the back of the arena...an extra 10 mins warm up at the back of the field as we were first on in our class....it stayed dry for the warm up...adrenaline starting to kick in...it stayed dry for the awe inspiring back field warm up....then came the time for the DM to announce our entry to the field....and it started hoofing it down...unfettered the corps entered the field heads held high...they were on a mission...whether mother nature liked it or not....everyone in start positions....BOOOOOOOM.....they put mother natures worst thunder storm to shame....they were more drilled than the rain pouring relentlessly on their plooms....the sound that come from the brass section was sweeter than a summer breeze yet cut through constantly falling rain drops....10 minutes of near perfection...their aim was to win...but the bigger aim was to decimate the previous points score....the end of the show arrived the last blast...the rain stopped...grrrrrr.....they left the field heads still held high....a little wetter than when they joined it...but still...the mighty Knights had again done their best....the competition came to an end...the results....once again they had done it....caption after caption...1st place Phantom Knights rang loud and proud through the stadium...another clean sweep taking all captions apart from turnout (think we need a new uniform boss πŸ˜‰ lol)....while all this was going on...i was in a secret meeting with the judges...well ok not so secret...it was critique...but secret meeting sounds better....the comments these young kids got were absolutely off the scale with praise...what a wonderful show...the best they have done yet....I loved every minute....absolutely fantastic...loved the changes...they just went on and on...there was also a special mention to our fantastic Contra player Leah with one of the judges saying she did a fantastic job....not bad for her first year on Contra.... go Leah πŸ™‚ πŸ’ͺπŸ’ͺπŸ’ͺπŸ’ͺπŸ’žπŸ’žπŸ’žπŸ’—πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘!!!!!!....so....they achieved the aim...to win...but what about the bigger aim ????....all I can say is WOW !!!....they broke the 70 barrier....with a score of 70.70....more than a 6 point jump...now that is impressive with still another 2 shows to go...i tell you...i am out of breath....how far can they go ???...can they do the 80 points by finals ???...you will have to be there to see it and believe it :-)...i believe they can :-)....we would like to say a big thank you to Beeches for hosting the competition...we all know what hard work this one has been...and congratulations on a successful event...we would also like to say well done to all competing corps and look forward to the next meeting of like minded people...its a pleasure to compete against and with you all....and finally...the next instalment...in 12 days time...we are all off to stafford to the home of Stafford Rangers football club....the competition....Brass Explosion.....I am sure it will be....look forward to seeing you all there from me and all the proud proud Mighty Knights ... This is what a former member randomly posted at the weekend and is well worth a read. We do agree a Sunday should be for family time and their chosen activities before they are lost forever. The marching activity clearly changes lives. This is what Sundays are made for... πŸ’™
.
.
.
.
.
Countless hours in the cold and wet, the hours of hearing β€˜one more time’, the band camps where no one ever gets any sleep so the Sunday everyone is like a zombie, the aches the pains, the tears!! But it’s also the laughs, the smiles, the high fives when you finally get it right after countless times of getting it wrong, it’s the goosebumps you get when the music fits with the drill perfectly and the guard are as one... and most importantly it’s the adrenaline you get from doing a whole run through and having 30 seconds to run straight back to the first ever set of the show and somehow managing to do run through after run through... and then even tho everybody is completely and utterly worn out we all still turn up rehearsal after rehearsal to do it all again... and why because practise makes perfect!! The endless travelling in an uncomfortable cramped coach whilst on your way to a show, going over every set in your head, the singalongs, the rummaging through your uniform bag to find the missing sock or glove... finally the time comes where for ten minutes all eyes are on you, ten minutes you get to show everyone what your made of, what your good at and what you have worked so bloody hard to achieve, everyone comes together as one, puts out a complete kick ass show and makes the crowd go WOW how good were they... when the applause hits, you all know it was totally worth itπŸ’™ #bandgeek #onemoretime #gushandgo #achesandpains #band #bandlife #bandfamily #adrenaline #onebandonesound #amazingfeeling #missit #whatsundaysarefor #sundaybandday #phantomknights
